Pesola Special Model Spring Scale - Olive Harvest Spring Scale 1000g

The Pesola Olive Harvest Spring Scale is a specialised, easy-to-use instrument designed to measure the detachment force of olives from the tree. Its rotating hook is designed to securely engage the olive peduncle, allowing the force required to detach the fruit to be measured accurately.

The measured resistance provides a useful indication of fruit ripeness and harvest timing. By recording the maximum force required to detach individual olives and calculating an average across multiple fruits, growers can obtain a consistent measurement to help assess harvesting conditions.

The scale features a durable anodised aluminium tube, a clear, high-resolution scale and a convenient drag pointer that records the maximum resistance reached during measurement. One drag pointer is supplied with the scale, together with a second replacement pointer.
The scale is fully mechanical, requiring no batteries, and includes tare and zero adjustment for accurate measurements. Its swivelable, rotatable and removable suspension bow is guided securely within a ring, making the instrument versatile and convenient for repeated field use.

How to Use

Fully extend the measuring bracket along its shaft until it stops, then position it for comfortable operation. Place the scale in the measuring position, with the hook directed towards the fruit peduncle, and adjust the zero point using the tare screw.

Slide the drag pointer back to zero and place the eye-hook around the peduncle of the olive. Slowly and continuously pull the scale bow, extending the scale from 0 to 1000g over approximately 3 seconds. When the olive detaches, the drag pointer remains at the maximum force recorded.

Take care to prevent recoiling branches from moving the drag pointer before the reading is recorded.

For a more reliable result, repeat the measurement on 10 different fruits, record each maximum force and calculate the average. This provides a representative measurement of the detachment force for the fruit being assessed.
