The StrikeAlert LD1000 is a compact, lightweight and easy-to-use personal lightning detector designed to provide early awareness of approaching lightning activity from up to approximately 64 km away.

Small enough to clip onto a belt loop, golf bag or backpack, the LD1000 continuously monitors for lightning and provides clear visual and audible warnings based on the approximate distance of detected strikes.

Lightning Distance Indication

When lightning is detected, the LD1000 displays the approximate distance of the strike using its LED indicators.

The detector provides four distance ranges:

• 32 - 64 km
• 19 - 38 km
• 9 - 19 km
• Less than 9 km
  

The detected distance is displayed for up to two minutes, allowing users to monitor recent lightning activity and identify the closest detected strike.

Storm Direction Monitoring

The LD1000 can analyse lightning strikes detected over approximately five minutes to determine the apparent movement of storm activity.

The indicator can show whether the storm appears to be:

• Green - Red: The storm is approaching
• Red - Green: The storm is departing
• Center LED to outside LED’s: The storm is stationary

This provides additional situational awareness when monitoring changing storm conditions outdoors.

Audible and Visual Alerts

The LD1000 can operate with its audible tone enabled, providing sound alerts corresponding with detected lightning activity and distance.

This is particularly useful when the detector is clipped to a belt, bag or backpack and the user cannot continuously monitor the LED indicators.
